The Taste of Solomon Islands itinerary, on board the Solomons PNG Master liveaboard, will take you to some of the best dive spots in Oceania. Located in the South Pacific, right between Polynesia and Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands are a group of hundreds of islands with a fascinating history and a magnificent underwater world. Ship, plane, submarine wrecks and many other remains from WWII dot the abundant, colorful reef systems and make the diving that much more interesting. Alongside tropical and pelagic marine fauna, amazing diversity and huge coral formations, pieces of metal, machinery and vessels of war turned into a living exhibit of beauty and wonder.
Your tour of the Solomons starts in Honiara, the capital, with an evening embarkation, dinner and meeting the crew and guests. Cruising for the first dive site will begin later that night, and on the first morning you will arrive at the first dive sites - White Beach and Hai island in the Russell Islands. This tiny island was a large, US military supply base, which dumped all of the trucks, heavy machinery and ammunition into the sea at the end of the war. With time, the dump site transformed into an incredible reef covered with corals and life. Pipefish, gobies and octopus can be found among the rough steel.
From here you will cruise around the Russell Islands to dive in some of the famous dive sites of the area: Leru cut, where sheer canyon walls create a unique environment, in which light and shadow play and make for great photo opps. And, Mirror Pond, with swim-throughs and tunnels, and great wildlife like crocodile fish, trevallies and unicorn fish can be found in abundance.
When conditions allow, the Solomons PNG Master will then make its way to Mborkua/Mary Island. Here you will find big schools of trevally and barracuda, scouting for a meal among the coral gardens, where nudibranchs and pipefish are easily found.
As the boat turns eastward, you will travel back through the wonderful reefs of Russell Islands and head to the Florida Islands for the last 2 days of your trip. In this area you will dive and explore some more breathtaking dive sites, with a combination of WWII wrecks and impressive reefs and pinnacles.
Along the way, your cruise will stop at local villages on remote islands, for tours, shopping and meeting the locals. Souvenirs, food, games and shows await in the picturesque island settlements.
